Our Practice Areas

“You will be defined not just by what you achieve but by how you survive.”

Criminal Law

There is no greater tyranny than that which is perpetrated under the shield of the law and in the name of justice.

FELONIES

Felony convictions carry severe penalties, including life in prison or a death sentence on certain aggravated murder charges. Stakes are high if you commit a felony. You can be classified as a convicted felon for life, lose your right to vote, be subject to employment discrimination, or denied a professional license or housing.

MISDEMEANORS

Misdemeanors, including assault, arson, theft and traffic offenses such as driving with a suspended license are divided into five levels. An M1 offense receives the most severe punishment. Minor misdemeanors (MM) such as speeding or going through a red light are punished less severely.

DUI

Driving under the influence of drugs or alcohol is known as DUI or DWI. DUI cases can be very complex and can carry many penalties including jail time, license suspension, fines, and vehicle forfeiture.

TRAFFIC VIOLATIONS

One of the problems with representing yourself is the lack of experience and legal knowledge. The average person just doesn’t know what the best courses of action are in a given case. Experienced traffic attorneys have the best idea of what tactics and options are available for obtaining good results. And, it’s not all legal knowledge. Attorneys who spend lots of time in traffic court are familiar with the tendencies of the different judges and sometimes of the law enforcement officers who write the tickets. This local knowledge can prove valuable in deciding how to defend against a ticket.

Domestic Relations

If he don’t love you anymore, just walk your fine ass out the door.

DIVORCE

The decision to end your marriage is one of the most difficult you and your family will ever face. Whether you are the spouse initiating the divorce, or the spouse responding to the divorce action, we will work diligently in representing your interests while following the most efficient path to resolve your divorce issues.

DISSOLUTION

A dissolution of marriage is by far the easiest and least expensive path to divorce. In a dissolution, we work with you and your spouse to reach an agreement settling all issues before filing any documents with the Court. If you have children, there will also be a parenting plan governing custody, parenting time, and child support. Once you submit the signed agreement to the Court, the Court adopts your agreement in its Decree of Dissolution and terminates your marriage.

SPOUSAL SUPPORT

Also known as alimony, one spouse pays the other ex-spouse a certain sum of money, usually on a monthly basis. Courts may require spousal support when one spouse earns more income than the other in order to equalize the parties incomes or to assist the other spouse to become financially stable after a marriage ends.

CUSTODY

Custody is a legal designation naming the person who has the right and responsibility to make decisions for a child, whether that is one or both parents, a relative, or a child welfare agency.

VISITATION

Also known as parenting time, visitation is an arrangement in which a parent or a relative has a schedule for spending time with a child who does not live with them.

PATERNITY

Establishing paternity is the legal process used to determine the legal father of a child. Once paternity is established, a father can seek to establish other rights including custody, visitation, or child support.

CHILD SUPPORT

Child support is an ongoing, periodic payment made by a parent for the financial benefit of a child. Child support is calculated based on a standard formula as determined by the state. Child support can be ordered by either an administrative agency or a court. We can help you ensure your child support is fair based on the facts and the law.

STALKING

Stalking is engaging in a course of conduct directed at a specific person that would cause a reasonable person to fear for his or her safety or the safety of others or suffer substantial emotional distress. Victims of stalking often alter their own behavior out of fear and to protect their safety.

DOMESTIC VIOLENCE

Domestic violence is causing, attempting to cause, or threatening to cause physical harm to a family or household member. We can assist you in utilizing the Court to obtain an Order of Protection if you are a victim or defend you if you are wrongfully accused.

Juvenile Law

The only person you are destined to become is the person you decide to be.

JUVENILE DELINQUENCY

Juvenile delinquency refers to acts committed by minors that would be crimes if committed by adults.

CHILDREN’S SERVICES

We diligently and aggressively represent parents and relatives in cases where the children have been taken by the state due to allegations of abuse or neglect.
